Dr. Habil Olaka – Chairman

Dr. Olaka is the immediate former Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) responsible for the Association’s strategic direction, covering industry advocacy, development, and sustainability. Previously he was the Director of Operations of the East African Development Bank (EADB) based in Kampala after serving as Resident Manager in Kenya. He previously served the Bank as the Head of Risk Management and the Chief Internal Auditor.

Before joining the Bank, he worked as an Internal Auditor at Banque Indosuez (now Bank of Africa). He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Nairobi in the Audit and Business Advisory Services Division. Dr. Olaka sits on four boards representing KBA. The Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), and the Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board (AMLAB), as alternate to the KBA Chairman. He is the Immediate Past President of the Federation of Kenya Employers(FKE) and the Chairman of the Centre for Corporate Governance (CCG). He also serves as a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Chartered Banker Institute, UK.

He also sits on the boards of Waica Re (K) Ltd where he is the Chairman of the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee, and on Gras Savoye Insurance Brokers (K) Ltd where he is the Chairman. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Old Mutual Holdings Plc.

He holds a Doctor of Business Administration from USIU-Africa, and his DBA dissertation was on strategic leadership’s influence on strategy implementation in commercial banks in Kenya. He holds an MBA in Finance from the Manchester Business School, UK, and a First Class Honours BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Olaka is a member of the Institute of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). An alumnus of the Strathmore School of Accountancy and has a good command of the French language. In 2018, he was recognized by the Association of Association Executives in Johannesburg, South Africa, as the Africa Association Leader of the Year 2018. He was awarded the Presidential National Honours Award – Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), 2021.
